Is Sifnos the right island?
Sifnos suits a trip built around Apollonia and Artemonas, pottery workshops and days at separate beach villages. Choose it when meals and village walks matter as much as swimming. It is less suitable if you want to fly straight onto your island or spend every evening at a different beach without arranging transport. The central villages are inland; sleeping there does not put a sandy beach outside your door.

Kamares is the ferry port on the west coast. Apollonia sits inland at the main road junction, with Artemonas to its north and Kastro to its east. Platis Gialos and Faros are separate southern coastal choices; Vathi is a western beach bay. Use this layout to group outings: Apollonia with Artemonas, Kastro as its own village visit, and Faros with the coast towards Chrysopigi. Moving between different beach branches can require going inland again.
Municipality: Apollonia and the road junctionGetting to Sifnos: Piraeus to Kamares
Search Athens departures from Piraeus, not an unspecified Athens port. Fast Ferries lists Sifnos on its Piraeus western-Cyclades corridor with Serifos, Milos and the smaller southern islands. Its published 2026 programme distinguishes the summer peak from the period ending 31 October. That programme is not evidence for a November sailing or a future summer booking. Choose a dated outward and return journey before fixing accommodation. A nearby island on a route list does not establish a useful same-day connection.
Fast Ferries: dated 2026 route periodsGetting around: the winter bus pattern matters
The municipal timetable valid 26 October–23 December 2026 says only underlined services run daily; all other entries exclude weekends and public holidays. Vathi and Cherronisos each retain two daily departures in each direction. Kastro retains one daily departure in each direction. No Faros or Platis Gialos entries are underlined. This makes a weekend beach outing very different from a summer bus day. Rows name their starting points: an Artemonas departure is not the boarding time in Apollonia. The 07:00 Faros/Platis Gialos footnotes also change the routing. Use the actual dated sheet rather than a general claim of frequent island buses.
Municipality of Sifnos: timetable and 2026 faresFood and pottery: leave time in the villages
Sifnos has an established pottery tradition and a food culture associated with Nikolaos Tselementes. Make room for a workshop visit rather than assuming every coastal stop is just for swimming. Revithada, the island’s chickpea dish, is a useful menu choice to look for; availability belongs to the restaurant, not to an island-wide serving schedule. Put your longer meal near your overnight base if the last bus would otherwise decide when you have to leave.

This is an editorial pacing suggestion, not a ferry timetable. Day 1: arrive at Kamares, settle in and keep the first beach or village walk near your accommodation. Day 2: explore Apollonia and Artemonas together, leaving the evening for dinner in the central villages. Day 3: make Faros the main outing, with Glyfo and the path towards Apokofto and Chrysopigi if conditions and your walking ability suit. Day 4: choose Vathi or Platis Gialos for a full beach day, rather than trying to cover both, then visit Kastro only if the transport works. Day 5: return to Kamares for departure. If Kastro is a priority, swap it into Day 3 and keep Faros for a longer stay. In the current winter bus period, place Faros or Platis Gialos on a working weekday or arrange a separate transfer.
Municipality: Faros and coastal pathsWhen to go and what to book first
For a beach-led visit, choose summer dates with the room and transport pattern you need. For village walks, spring or autumn can be a better planning fit, but neither implies every beach business or bus route is operating. Late-October visitors should use the newly dated winter bus sheet rather than September examples. Book transport first, then the base, then any specific restaurant or workshop you do not want to miss. Keep your final island night separate from an inflexible onward flight if a cancelled crossing would be costly.
