Start with Piraeus to Naxos Town
The Athens to Naxos ferry journey starts at an Athens-area port, not at Athens airport. Piraeus is the starting point used here: Blue Star’s early-October 2026 notice documents a Piraeus–Paros–Naxos service. You arrive at the main port in Naxos Town, also called Chora. A beach hotel at Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna or Plaka needs a separate onward transfer.
Choose the dated sailing first, then organise the trip to its departure port. Rafina is a different port and must be searched separately; an airport bus to Rafina does not establish that a Naxos ferry runs on your date.
Blue Star: dated Piraeus–Naxos route evidenceHow long is the Athens to Naxos ferry?
Allow a substantial transfer day rather than assuming the ferry is a short hop. A documented example is Blue Star Delos on 4 October 2026: departure from Piraeus at 10:25, a call at Paros, and arrival at Naxos at 15:45. That was 5 hours 20 minutes at sea including the intermediate stop. These were modified historical times, not today’s departures or a standard duration.
For your trip, compare the departure and arrival on the actual booking result, including intermediate calls. An earlier ferry can get you to Naxos sooner than a later vessel with a shorter sea crossing. Add travel to Piraeus, boarding time and the transfer to your room before deciding whether an arrival-day activity is feasible.
Source of the dated crossing exampleAirport to Piraeus: rail or X96
Athens airport lists Metro Line 3 to Piraeus station, the suburban railway to Piraeus, and the X96 express bus. Its indicative journey times are 60 minutes by metro, 65 minutes by suburban railway and 90 minutes by X96. These are transport estimates, not flight-to-ferry connection times: baggage collection, waiting for transport and finding your embarkation point all come extra.
For a morning ferry after an international arrival, our practical recommendation is to reach Athens the previous day. If you stay in central Athens, plan the journey from that hotel rather than returning to the airport. Choose the exact port and vessel before selecting a Piraeus hotel; a general port address is not the boarding ramp.

- Before leaving
Save the port, ship and issued ticket
Read Piraeus as a specific departure port, not a synonym for every Athens ferry terminal. Save your vessel name, departure time and embarkation instructions offline. Do not use the ship’s name as its destination: a ferry named after another island may serve Naxos.
- At Piraeus
Reach the actual embarkation area
Blue Star requires passengers at the embarkation area at least one hour before departure. The station or bus stop is not that area. Add the journey through the port and any ticket-collection requirement before setting your hotel departure time.
Blue Star embarkation conditions - On Naxos
Separate town arrival from the beach transfer
Disembark at Naxos Town. Continue to the exact Chora address on foot if suitable, or use the port-side bus terminal or a prearranged transfer for the beach corridor. Keep documents and medication in your small bag rather than inaccessible luggage.
Tickets, fares and boarding
Compare final totals for the actual passengers, seat type and any vehicle. A route-page minimum is not a quote for your crossing, and this guide does not claim a verified bookable fare. Include airport or hotel transport and the Naxos transfer in the comparison. For a high-speed option, establish the actual vessel’s vehicle provision before taking a rental car to the port.
For Blue Star website bookings, web check-in opens 48 hours before departure and closes two hours before it. Show the e-ticket with your ID or passport. Port-agency collection is a different process and requires collection at least two hours before departure; do not plan to collect a ticket at the last minute.
Blue Star: web check-in and collectionChora, Agios Georgios or the beach corridor?
Chora is the simplest arrival base when you want to leave the ferry and stay in town. Obtain the hotel’s actual luggage route: an old-town address can involve steps or narrow lanes. For Agios Georgios, identify the route to the specific property rather than assuming every hotel is beside the port.
For Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna and Plaka, the local bus operator locates its Naxos Town terminal at the port and lists these stops along the beach corridor. That establishes where to start, not a guaranteed bus after your ferry. If the arrival is late, settle the road transfer and accommodation check-in before booking a beach stay.
Naxos buses: port terminal and named beach stopsSeasons, delays and a return flight
The sources checked on 24 October 2026 establish the route and booking procedures, not every winter departure or a 2027 timetable. Seajets’ route overview is labelled 2026; use a date-specific operator search for alternatives rather than treating its map as daily service. A blank future search does not establish that the route has closed.
Keep your first Naxos day lightly booked. For the return to an expensive onward flight, our recommendation is to sleep on the mainland the night before flying, with more margin where disruption would be costly. That is a planning preference, not a guarantee against cancellations.
Ferry disruption: rebooking and connection buffersContinuing from Naxos to Paros
If Naxos is the first stop in a two-island trip, continue directly to Paros when a suitable dated crossing is available rather than automatically returning to Athens. The departure is from Naxos Town and the Paros arrival is at Parikia. Keep the hotel-change day separate from a full beach or village day.

Use the area guide to compare Chora, Agios Georgios and the west-coast beaches. The easiest ferry arrival and the best beach base may be different choices; decide whether the extra transfer is worth it for the length of your stay.
