Which Piraeus to Aegina ferry should you book?
For a first visit without a car, book Piraeus to Aegina’s main port, in Aegina Town. Saronic Ferries describes this as a year-round route carrying passengers and vehicles. Its advertised crossing is about 1 hour 10 minutes, while its dated 24 October 2026 list also includes sailings taking 1 hour 25 minutes. Choose by the arrival time on your actual sailing, not by the shortest figure in a page header.
Souvala and Agia Marina are different arrival ports on the same island. They are not alternative names for Aegina Town. A cheaper or better-timed ticket to one of them changes the onward journey and may be unsuitable for a town-based day trip.

| Your decision | Where you arrive | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Aegina / main port | Aegina Town on the western side of the island. | The default for harbour walks, town accommodation and a visit without an immediate island transfer. |
| Souvala | The north-coast port and resort. | When staying in Souvala or when a confirmed onward transfer makes this arrival useful; check service on your date. |
| Agia Marina | The east-coast resort port. | When the beach resort is your destination and a dated sailing exists. Do not assume it shares the main-port year-round timetable. |
Finding the ship at Piraeus
Saronic Ferries identifies Gate E8 for its Aegina departures. Travel to Piraeus, not Rafina or Lavrio, then follow the operator and vessel details to the correct boarding position. The station and the ship are separate points in the journey: leave time to find the berth and deal with luggage.
The operator advises arriving 20–40 minutes before departure. Treat that as time at the port, not as the time to leave your Athens hotel. Vehicle loading and any assistance arrangements need to follow the instructions for your specific booking. Do not arrive at the gate at the printed sailing time.
Saronic Ferries: Aegina ports and dated sailingsWhat the current timetable actually establishes
The operator’s Aegina page checked on 24 October 2026 showed dated departures from Piraeus including 07:45–08:55 on Achaeos and 10:00–11:25 on Antigone. These examples establish that crossing times vary; they are not a recurring timetable for another day.
The same page’s generic prose says the first sailing is 07:20 and mentions late departures up to 21:30 depending on season. That prose does not match the dated list, whose latest displayed departure that day was 17:00. For travel decisions, use the date-selected departure list and ticket rather than those undated first-and-last statements.
The main-port route is advertised year-round, with frequency changing through the year. That does not establish daily service to Souvala or Agia Marina, an onward connection to another island, or a guaranteed sailing in bad weather.
Saronic Ferries: Aegina ports and dated sailingsTickets, vehicles and comparing the full journey
Saronic Ferries sells tickets online and at the departure port and describes sending an e-ticket by email after online booking. Enter the passenger details correctly and save the actual ticket where you can open it at boarding. If travelling with a car, reserve the vehicle space rather than assuming a foot-passenger ticket covers it; the operator recommends advance purchase especially for cars in busy periods.
No current fare is quoted here: the paired amounts in the destination-page header do not establish a date-specific fare for your passenger and vehicle combination. Compare the dated booking total, including the return leg and any vehicle, before paying.
If considering a faster sailing from another operator, compare the actual arrival port, luggage and vehicle rules as well as the time saved. This guide’s 1 hour 10 minute to 1 hour 25 minute examples describe the verified conventional-ferry sailings, not every vessel on the route.
Saronic Ferries: Aegina ports and dated sailingsFrom Aegina’s ferry ramp to your day out
Aegina Town is the straightforward arrival for walking the waterfront, town lanes and the nearby Kolona area. Keep an archaeological visit conditional on its opening hours. For Aphaia, Agia Marina or Perdika, choose the onward bus or taxi plan before leaving the harbour; they are not all stops on a short walk from the ferry.
If staying in Souvala or Agia Marina after an Aegina Town arrival, include the onward transfer in the budget and arrival plan. A hotel on the island is not necessarily close to the port printed on your ticket. The destination guide compares these bases and gives a town-based day plan.
Saronic Ferries: Aegina ports and dated sailingsBooking the return and keeping connections realistic
For a day trip, select the return Aegina–Piraeus sailing before buying the outbound. Count the usable time between arrival and the operator’s required return boarding time, not simply between two departures. Return to the same island port your ticket names. Do not assume a late sailing mentioned in generic route copy runs that evening.
For an onward Athens flight, add the Piraeus-to-airport transfer and the airline’s check-in requirements after the ferry arrival, with room for disruption. The ferry ticket does not protect a separately booked flight. An Athens overnight before an important departure reduces reliance on a same-day sea crossing.
If weather or an operator notice changes the sailing, use the ticket operator’s instructions for the affected booking. Do not substitute an advertised connection to another Saronic island without a dated service and a feasible return.
