Paxos travel guide: Gaios, Lakka, beaches and arrival
Choose Paxos for a small-island stay south of Corfu. Compare Gaios, Lakka and Loggos, plan beach and walking days, and allow for the ferry transfer.
Is Paxos worth adding to a Corfu trip?
Paxos suits a holiday built around harbour villages, swimming and walks rather than a long list of major sights. Choose it when you want several nights on a smaller island; keep the whole trip on Corfu if you mainly want Old Town and a beach resort without another hotel move. Paxos, also written Paxi, lies south of Corfu, and Gaios is its capital and main port. Our starting recommendation is three or four Paxos nights, with a Corfu night before a fixed flight home. This is an editorial pacing choice, not a minimum stay or a protected travel package. A same-day cruise gives a short visit; it does not give you the evenings or flexible beach days of a stay.

| Compare | Choose it for | What to plan around |
|---|---|---|
| Gaios | The main-port town and a practical first base for arrival and harbour evenings. | Match your room to the actual arrival berth; a Gaios address does not mean a luggage-free arrival. |
| Lakka | The northern harbour and nearby Harami beach, whose shallow water and sandy seabed Visit Greece describes. | Arrange the cross-island arrival transfer rather than assuming the ferry drops you at Lakka. |
| Loggos | A village stay with walks towards Levrechio and Marmari beaches. | Choose a room around the village if you want walks from the door; a hillside villa is a different transport choice. |
Pick a beach day by access and shoreline
Much of the east coast has pebble beaches. Start with Levrechio or Marmari when staying around Loggos, Harami around Lakka, or consider Kaki Lagada as a separate outing. Harami has a sandy seabed; that does not make all of Paxos a sandy-beach island. Moggonisi at the southern end is another named option in the official beach guide. Orkos involves a footpath. The west-coast beach of Erimitis sits below cliffs and formed after a landslide; it is not the default choice for an easy-access family beach day. A beach description does not establish current path condition, lifeguards or safe water on your visit. Choose a manageable access route before committing to a remote cove.

Flying to Corfu and continuing by ferry is a practical way to approach Paxos, but the flight, Corfu ground transfer and sea crossing are separate parts of the journey. Kamelia Lines publishes separate Corfu–Paxos and Lefkimmi–Paxos selections. Lefkimmi is a different Corfu departure port, not another name for the town port. Kamelia advertises year-round service, with different winter schedules. That statement does not prove a particular sailing after your flight. For a late arrival or an uncertain connection, spend the first night on Corfu instead of booking a Paxos room that requires the last boat. Its FAQ lists an agency at Gaios New Port as well as an office in Gaios; obtain the berth and arrange the onward transfer before arrival.
Kamelia Lines: ticket agencies, crossing and winter-service FAQPaxos without a car: choose a village, not just an island
A village room makes a car-free stay more workable than an isolated villa: you can plan meals and a nearby walk without a separate journey each time. Gaios is our starting choice for a first arrival-led stay, Lakka for the northern harbour and Harami, and Loggos for nearby beach walks. These are editorial choices, not promises of a bus, taxi or boat on demand. Visit Greece describes footpaths between settlements and around the olive groves, including Loggos towards Orkos and Lakka. Use a local route map and current conditions for the walk; a line on an island map is not proof of a shaded pavement or a route suitable for luggage. Arrange arrival and departure transport separately from the walking days. No current local bus frequency or taxi fare is assumed here.

Arrival day: settle into one village and keep the first evening local. First full day: use the nearest suitable beach, such as Harami from Lakka or the Loggos-side beaches, without an island-wide sightseeing circuit. Second full day: visit a different village and combine it with a manageable walk or beach stop. Third full day: leave room for a boat outing to Antipaxos if a suitable service and sea conditions permit; otherwise use another Paxos beach or walking day. Depart after the fourth night. This is a suggested sequence, not a sold itinerary. Keep Antipaxos flexible rather than making it the only purpose of a short stay. Visit Greece identifies private boats and organised excursions from Paxos, but that does not establish a fixed shuttle interval, a current fare or a guaranteed return on your date.

For a swimming-led trip, choose dates around the beach holiday you want and then test the ferry and accommodation availability together. For an autumn or winter visit, book for the village stay itself rather than assuming summer boat excursions and every seasonal business will operate. A year-round inter-island service is not the same thing as a full summer visitor programme. Build the cost from your actual room quote, both sea crossings, Corfu airport-to-port travel, Paxos arrival and departure transfers, and any separate boat outing. A headline ferry offer is not the total cost of adding Paxos. We have not verified a live room quote, excursion price or complete dated fare basket for this guide.
