When Mantoudi is the right gateway
Mantoudi is a useful gateway to investigate when travelling from Athens or Evia to the Sporades, especially if you already have a car or a confirmed bus connection to the port. The ferry harbour is at Kymasi, also written Kymassi, outside Mantoudi town. It is not an Athens port and it is not Kymi, the separate Evia gateway associated with Skyros.
Choose it only when the complete journey works: Athens or your Evia accommodation to Kymasi, the ferry to the exact island port, and the final transfer to your room. For a traveller coming from Thessaly or northern Greece, compare Volos first. For someone arriving by air, compare flying to Skiathos rather than assuming a road-and-ferry journey is always simpler.
SEAJETS: Mantoudi and KymasiWhere is Mantoudi ferry port?
The ferry port is on the coast at Kymasi, not in Mantoudi’s town centre. Ferryhopper places it about 4 km from the village centre. Use Kymasi port as the road-transfer destination and agree a quay meeting point for collection. A bus ticket or room described only as Mantoudi needs a separate location check.
Do not plan a luggage walk from the town as if the harbour were its central square. If staying overnight before a sailing, compare a Kymasi address with a Mantoudi-town address and arrange the missing transfer. The useful distinction is where you will wake up relative to the ferry, not simply whether the booking says Mantoudi.
Ferryhopper: location of Mantoudi ferry portAthens to Kymasi by bus
Skopelosweb describes the KTEL Evias connection from Athens through Chalkida to Kymasi and links the bus company’s specific Athens–Kymasi route and booking service. It identifies the Athens departure in the Liosion station area, with Rikaki 6 as the address; this is not Kifissos bus station or Athens airport.
The regional page describes coordination with selected SEAJETS sailings. That is useful evidence of the connection’s purpose, not a guarantee that every ferry has a matching coach. The KTEL route page could not be retrieved during our 25 October 2026 check, so no current departure time, fare or guaranteed return bus is quoted here. Before buying a ferry as a foot passenger, obtain a dated Kymasi-bound bus result, the Athens boarding address and a separate return arrangement. KTEL Evias is listed at +30 22210 20400.
If the bus result ends at Mantoudi town rather than Kymasi port, add the town-to-quay transfer. For an airport arrival, allow for reaching the Athens coach departure as a separate leg; a flight landing time is not the start of the overland journey.

| Your decision | When to investigate it first | Extra journey to account for |
|---|---|---|
| Mantoudi / Kymasi | Starting in Athens or Evia, with workable dated ferry and road connections. | Travel to the coastal quay; bus coverage and the return journey need their own confirmation. |
| Volos | Starting in Thessaly or approaching from northern Greece. | Onward travel from the city arrival point to the ferry port, then the island crossing. |
| Skiathos airport | A suitable flight reaches Skiathos and that island is part of the holiday. | Airport-to-harbour transfer and a separate ferry if the room is on Skopelos or Alonissos. |
Which Sporades ports should you search?
Search Mantoudi as the departure point, then the specific destination offered for your date. Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos belong to this regional corridor, but a corridor listing does not establish a through sailing to all of them on every date. SEAJETS maintains a 2026 route-information page with a Sporades / Thessaly / Evia section.
Skopelos requires particular care. Skopelos Town and Loutraki, often ticketed as Glossa, are different ports; Glossa village is uphill from Loutraki. Agnontas can also be an arrival point. A shorter crossing to one port can still mean a less convenient journey to your room. For Alonissos, Patitiri is the main arrival harbour.
Skopelosweb: mainland gateways and Skopelos arrival portsA summer timetable is not an October or winter service
The Ferries.gr page headed Thessaloniki–Skiathos–Skopelos–Alonissos–Mantoudi gives a service period of 27 June to 6 September 2026. Its weekday tables are summer evidence, not a current October timetable and not a promise for 2027. The generic booking calendar below the article does not extend that service period.
Use that page to understand why an old search result may show a route that does not appear for your dates. A missing result can require a different gateway or travel day; it is not a reason to build the trip around an expired departure. For an off-season stay, settle both outward and return transport before booking island accommodation.
There is separate autumn evidence: Skopelosweb’s update dated 16 October 2026 reports the Mantoudi connection operating twice weekly, initially with Sporades Star. This is a dated regional report, not confirmation of a departure or seats on your date. It does not revive the expired summer table.
Ferries.gr: summer 2026 timetable, ending 6 SeptemberDriving, boarding and returning to Athens
Set the navigation destination to Kymasi ferry port. If taking the car aboard, enter it in the booking from the start and use the actual sailing’s vehicle and check-in instructions. A passenger result does not establish vehicle availability. If leaving a car ashore, establish parking conditions and collection access separately; this guide does not certify a free or guarded long-stay car park.
For the return, start with the ticketed island departure port and arrival at Mantoudi, then arrange the onward road journey. Do not infer a return coach from an outward coach listing. If a separate flight or other fixed departure follows, consider an Athens overnight rather than treating the ferry, road transfer and airport journey as a protected connection.
